Responsibilities

I was the administrative intern at Foundations Learning Center in Ames, which is a gospel-centered childcare facility that works with families of all backgrounds to provide safe and affordable care. My duties are basically anything and everything that the director assigns to me to work on. This could be enrollment paperwork, updating children's files, shadowing teacher evaluations, creating resources for teachers, etc. My list could go on and on!

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was helping create a more efficient and organized enrollment process for families. I have prepared the enrollment papers before the meetings and went through paperwork to see what was still missing. I also created a streamlined checklist to ensure every child has the necessary paperwork.

Learning experience

I have learned that conflict is unavoidable in the workplace. If there was no conflict, that means that someone is just going along with everything and not speaking their mind. It is how you handle and approach the conflict that matters.

What advice would you give?

My advice would be to get as much experience as you can while in college. Get a job relevant to your major, volunteer, job shadow, etc. Put yourself out there and try as many different things as you can! That is what I have done and I feel very prepared to enter the workforce.
