Responsibilities

As a youth worker I am in charge of supervising youth in high school in a school setting. This school is for children who have behavior issues and cannot be successful in a public school setting. I have been part of their IEP meetings to meet new goals for them to reach and transition back into their home schools. I have monitored nutrition meals for them to make sure everything is getting served correctly. I have lead interpersonal communication groups on hygiene, peer relationships, and daily life skills for them to use on a daily basis.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment from this experience is gaining relationships with the youth I work with. Its nice seeing them change and getting to know who they are. I also am getting to know more about my co-workers and have built amazing relationships with them as well.

What advice would you give?

Take time to research your company or organization your going to work with. Also ask questions that you have while at your internship. Do not be scared to ask things if you do not know them. Make sure to communicate with others if you have an issue.
