During my internship my responsibilities were following my supervisor through her daily schedule/activities. I did food programming, classroom audits, filing, creating a summer calendar with activities, and was in on her meetings. I helped out in the classrooms of all ages from infants to 3 year olds. My responsibilities in the classroom were to care for the children by changing diapers, serving lunch and snacks, doing activities, and more.

My greatest accomplishment was making the connections with the staff, children, and their parents.

Learning experience

I learned how to care for children in a childcare setting and have gained so much experience with children of all ages. I have always nannied but never in a childcare environment with multiple children all at once. I also was able to understand the behind the scenes of a supervisor position and what their weekly schedules look like.

What advice would you give?

My advice would be to volunteer at different organizations and see what fits you best. Our major is so rewarding and there are so many different opportunities out there!
