Responsibilities

- Assist in grief groups at elementary, middle, and high schools - Assist in special events - Assist in kids programs - Planning and preparing for groups, events, and programs

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment would have to be that the this year, the academy has facilitated grief groups in 18 schools. As an intern, I have been a part of 7 of those groups.

Learning experience

Grief is different for everyone. Grief is life long. The most important thing to do as a support person is to listen because each individual's experience is unique. All feelings are valid. It's what we do with those feelings that matters. As a support person in the human services field, we have to set and maintain boundaries for ourself and find work-life balance in order to show up at our best.

What advice would you give?

Plan ahead for your internship! If it's unpaid, there are scholarships, but you have to know your plans early.
