Responsibilities

As an Outpatient Therapy Administrative Intern, I assist therapists and other staff with administrative tasks such as filing, creating documents, discharge auditing, and planning office events. I also shadow therapists during therapy sessions and help out with children on some occasions.

Accomplishments

I believe my greatest accomplishment from my internship experience is planning and presenting seven weeks of Winter Fun. Winter Fun is an office tradition through which staff can "beat the winter blues" by participating in fun activities, learning new things, and eating delicious food. Each week has a different theme. As an intern, I was able to plan each week, prepare materials, make runs to the store, and set up activities for staff.

What advice would you give?

I would advise students to try to find an internship that puts you right in the middle of something you will be dealing with when you find your own professional position in the real world. Try to find something that will take you out of your comfort zone and push you to find solutions to problems, or at least think differently about the way you work with others. If you do this, you will be more likely to discover something you did not know you enjoyed.
