Responsibilities
I would stock canned goods, produce and other food items once they arrived from Trader Joe's or Panera. It was my responsibility to keep our pantry clean and organized along with entering client's data on the computer and helping clients set up appointments. I had the opportunity to sit in during counseling sessions/appointments with clients and learn about their background, family and what the client was going through. I would pack boxes of food to give to our clients, and bag bread and other items to donate to an elementary school down the street.
Accomplishments
Learning how The Kathedral and the Help Center positively affected clients and being told how thankful clients are for myself and other staff. Being a work-a-holic is was difficult to dedicate 21 hours of my time each week as an unpaid intern at first, but I learned quickly how good it made people feel to be cared about by others when they have nothing, not even a roof over their head. Being given a hug and being thanked over and over again by clients has been payment enough for the work we do for them at The Kathedral.
What advice would you give?
