Responsibilities

My biggest responsibilities throughout my internship have been collecting research and completing designated projects. My internship supervisor will give me a topic that she needs help with, or wants more information to provide to families, and I will collect research and put it into a format that is presentable for others. I also have been attending many meetings with other adoption agencies and organizations in Iowa. Those have been a great source of knowledge for me over this experience.

Accomplishments

The greatest accomplishment I have had this far was when I attended a meeting with the Iowans for Adoption and I spoke up about some research I've been conducting. After talking about what I've learned one of the group members, who was a previous professor of mine, told me she was very proud of how I'm doing in the internship and how well I was presenting myself.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future students is that if you have any interest in the adoption world, to definitely try and get an internship or even a shadowing with an agency. It haas been so eye opening for me to learn about what they do every day, and I believe it's something that needs to be experienced if you think that's the field you want to pursue.
