Gerontology
- Community-based agencies such as senior centers, nutrition sites, and adult day care programs
- Residential institutions such as public housing, retirement communities, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and hospitals
- Educational settings such as community colleges and the extensions service
- Business settings such as public relations, marketing departments, and consumer relations
- Government agencies at local, regional, state, and federal levels
- 9 credits of core courses (GERON 373, 377, 378 or 463)
- 3 credits of supportive gerontology related courses or an additional core course
- 1 credit of pre-practicum seminar
- 3 credits of practicum
- 16 credits total
- Nine of the credits are selected from an approved list of core courses.
- One independent study (3 credits maximum) may be used as a core course.
- Gerontology 510 Seminar (1-3 credits) may also be used as an independent study.
- The faculty member who is designated the Gerontology Program representative solicits preliminary examination questions from instructors of gerontology core courses taken by the student.
- The designated Gerontology representative on the student’s POS committee prepares at least two questions for the student.
- The student has one-half day to write answers to the gerontology questions.
- Faculty score the written exam.
- The student participates in oral preliminary examination.
