Abby Blint always knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. Growing up in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, she jumped at every opportunity to teach and coach, whether on the softball field, in the wrestling room, or in a classroom. That passion made majoring in elementary education an easy choice when she arrived at Iowa State.

Blint came to campus with 48 transfer credits and a wealth of experience under her belt. What stood out to her most about Iowa State was the close-knit, welcoming environment, especially within the School of Education.

Throughout her time at Iowa State, she loved supporting her fellow students. Inspired by her own experience with her peer mentor, Blint became one herself.

“I loved the chance to share knowledge, help students plan their academic journeys, and offer tips to make their time at Iowa State enjoyable,” she said.

Blint’s involvement didn’t stop there. During her freshman year, she served on the Friley Hall Senate, an experience she found eye-opening. She also worked as a College of Health and Human Sciences Ambassador, connecting with new students and shared insights about campus life. Her role as a Cyclone Aid during orientation, she guided and supported incoming students.

One class that left a lasting impression on Blint was Learning Community for Elementary Education.

“It was a fantastic introduction to the field,” she said. “I was able to get my feet wet and connect with peer mentors.”

With experience in student teaching and substitute teaching, Blint graduated feeling more prepared than ever for her own classroom.

In her final semester at Iowa State, Blint took part in a student teaching experience in New Zealand. She was eager to build relationships with new professors and bring fresh ideas and teaching strategies back to the U.S.

“I’m so grateful for the knowledge and connections I gained at Iowa State,” she said. “And I’m ready to make a lasting impact in the world of education.”
